Keep Your Business Data Safe

Understand what not to paste into AI tools and keep privacy simple and practical.

AI tools are safe to use for almost everything in your business — but a few common-sense habits keep you out of trouble. The simple rule: don't paste anything you wouldn't want a stranger to read, because most free-tier conversations may be used to improve the tool unless you turn that setting off.

Avoid pasting full customer lists with personal details, passwords, banking or SIN numbers, or anything covered by a signed confidentiality agreement. Instead, describe the situation without the sensitive specifics — you almost never need the real customer's full name and address to get a useful answer; "a customer" or a first name works fine.

In practice

An owner double-checks a message for names, numbers, and account details before pasting it into AI.

The rest is free too — it just needs a seat.
